1. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS

To access GOBiS Online:

  • The minimum recommended browsers are Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.0, or Netscape 6.0
  • Cookies must be enabled in the web browser. Go to the ‘Options’ menu of your browser and select "Enable Cookies"

To utilise the Department of Tourism, Regional Development and Industry’s SmartSite:

  • The minimum recommended browsers are Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0, or Netscape 6.0 (Netscape 4.0 is not supported); Opera 6 (or any other browser that supports Javascript 1.3)
  • Javascript must be enabled
  • Cookies must be enabled

2. GOBiS ONLINE FUNCTIONS

2.1 Functions

  • diagnose Government services available to assist your business
  • obtain a specific service through a single service search
  • view and print details of Queensland and Commonwealth services
  • manage your list of services by performing multiple searches and adding/or removing items from your list.

2.2 Navigation

GOBiS Online provides a standard set of navigation tabs which are your keys to moving around the system. These tabs are:

  • Signed In/LoggedOut allows you to sign in or log out of the site
  • Search allows you to commence any search function
  • My Profile allows you to update your details
  • My Workspace allows you to manage your list of services ie add, remove
  • Further Assistance provides contact information for GOBiS
  • On Line Tutor answers any questions relating to the operation of GOBiS Online.

2.3 Security and Users - SmartSite Log in

Access to functions within GOBiS Online is via the Department of Tourism, Regional Development and Industry SmartSite user Sign In and authentication. Clients registering with SmartSite are provided with a password to Sign In. This Sign In authenticates clients and allows them to reenter their own workspace.
Users entering the site are categorised as either:

  • Logged Out. You are able to conduct searches but are unable to save your list of services
  • Signed In. You are able to complete searches and return to your list of services at another time

2.4 Using GOBIS Online

2.4.1 Sign In

The first tab on the toolbar identifies whether you are Signed In to or Logged Out of the site.

To Sign In you need to be registered with SmartSite. If you are not a registered SmartSite User, click the Sign In tab to link to the SmartSite Sign In page. Click on "If you do not yet have a FREE SmartSite account, please click here to create one." Click on the type of account you wish to create.

You will be asked to provide your personal details. You will be registered upon completion of all the mandatory fields. The system allocates a user password which is emailed to the email address you provided. You can now Sign In. Signing in enables you to return to your Workspace at future times to access your search results.

Results of searches conducted prior to Signing In will still be available after Sign In but ONLY IF the Sign In is completed within the same browser session (ie. if the Registration / Sign In is completed without closing the browser that was being used to perform the searches or without disconnecting from the internet).

2.4.2 ‘My Profile’

My Profile provides your personal details used for your login to the Department’s SmartSite. Once you have Signed In you can update your contact details.

Click on the My Profile tab in the navigation bar on all GOBiS Online pages. This link opens the Client Profile Edit page and displays your profile details.

If you change your email address, your password will be changed and emailed to your new address. You will then need to Sign In to the system again utilising the new password.

2.4.3 ‘Search’ - How do I know which services I require?

Click on the Search tab in the navigation bar on any GOBiS Online page. This will take you to the Service Search page. Select one of 2 search options to provide you with a list of possible services

2.4.3.1 ‘Services for Your Business’ Search

This search provides you with a complete diagnosis of services available for your business. Click on ‘Services for your Business’ to commence a question and answer session.

If your industry category is not listed in the drop down list, use the link provided to complete the GOBiS Information Request Form and click 'Submit Comments' to send the completed form to GOBiS staff. They will either send you a package of information or contact you for further information.

To change the answers to previous questions, use the navigation in the left hand panel by clicking on the subject you wish to review.

By hovering your mouse over any highlighted and underlined text in questions, a pop up window will appear providing further information about the term highlighted.

Once you have completed all of the questions, the My Workspace page will automatically open. This page will contain a list of suggested services which may be relevant to your business. Click on the links for information related to these services.

2.4.3.2 ‘Find a Service’ Search

Enter one or more words from the service title in the search field (Multiple word searches will be treated as an ‘AND’ search). Alternatively select a single keyword from the drop down list.. Selecting a keyword/s from the dropdown list will identify services linked to those keywords.

Once the desired criteria has been entered, click the Search button. The results of your search will be listed.

If you are satisfied that you have the correct service add it to your List in My Workspace, by ticking the checkbox. If you wish to add all of the services from your search, tick the ‘Add all search results to my List’. To access the services that you have added to your List, click on the My Workspace tab in the toolbar.

2.4.4 ‘My Workspace’ - How do I know which services I require?

My Workspace allows you to manage your service requirements. From My Workspace page you can view information related to services.

Open the My Workspace page by clicking the tab at the top of any of the GOBiS web pages. The My Workspace page will also automatically appear at the completion of the ‘Services for Your Business’ search and enables you to manage your list of services. View and modify the list of services selected from your searches. To delete all services in your Workspace, tick the checkbox below the list and click on the Remove tab at the bottom of the screen.

View information about a service by clicking on the service title. This will take you to the Service Summary page where you can access additional information about the service.

2.4.5 ‘Service Summary’ – Does this service apply to me?

The Service Summary page provides, where applicable:

  • Details of service number, GOBiS (title used by GOBiS staff) and Agency titles (title used by agency staff)
  • Links to information to access the relevance of the service to your business
  • Links to view and print forms.

Click the link under Do I Need This? to obtain a description of the service and its conditions.

Click the link under Additional Information, where available, for further information relating to the service.

Where application forms are available you can click on the View button to obtain a .pdf version of the form in a separate window.

2.5 Further Assistance

For further assistance, select the Further Assistance tab in the Navigation bar. If you telephone for assistance, GOBiS staff will ask for your details and your account to identify the stage you are at to assist in answering your enquiries.
