Advanced Wastewater Management Centre
The AWMC is a leading research and development centre in environmental biotechnology and wastewater management. Its particular strength is the close integration of biological science, process engineering and informatics. This unique combination forms the basis for groundbreaking research but also offers some exciting opportunities for development and application of user-specific solutions to challenging environmental problems.

The AWMC has a vast expertise base in its research team with over 20 academic and research staff and more than 25 research students. The extensive in-house facilities are designed for environmental biotechnology applications with wider access to the University of Queensland's world-class research infrastructure. This facility provides a vast range of scientific and applied services for both internal and external users.

The AWMC has an outstanding track record of successful research, development and application projects currently worth AU$3 million per annum, many in close collaboration with industry or international collaborators. Industry related projects cover wastewater and water treatment, sewer systems, alternative energy, and anaerobic processes. The AWMC collaborates with a range of industries including minerals processing, food and beverages (meat, fruit and vegetable, sugar, wine, beer and soft drink), dairy and other agro-industrial areas.
